After World Cup, Mohali starts preparations for IPL

After heaving a sigh of relief following the peaceful conduct of ICC World Cup matches — including the high-voltage semifinal between India and Pakistan — the Mohali district administration on Thursday began preparations for the four Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to be played at PCA Stadium from April 13.

Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar chaired a special meeting of senior officials on Thursday to ensure adequate traffic and parking arrangements as well as other facilities for the locals and those who will come to watch the matches on April 13, 21, May 8 and 10.

Kumar asked officials of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), the Municipal Corporation and the district police to identify spaces where spectators can park their vehicles. He also asked them to prepare a route diversion plan and publicise it widely to ensure free movement of traffic during the match days. The civic body and health department officials were instructed to ensure proper arrangements of cleanliness, drinking water supply and hygiene of food articles sold in and around the stadium.
